Yesterday was a BIG DAY in our house as Daniel drank all his Pediasure (8 oz.) and did not need to use his G-Tube for anything. The reason that this is big news is that it is the final steps we need to take to get this G-Tube removed permanently. His Dr. in Cincinnati requires that we do not use the G-Tube for anything - feeding, meds., etc - and Daniel doesn't loose any weight and remains on his growth curve for three months. Once that happens, WE, and yes I mean we, can pull the plug for good. YEAH!!!
Truth be told, we have only been doing one liquid feeding a day through his G-Tube for six months or so and even that amount has varied as I have finally gotten smart and have been hiding ounces of his Pediasure in his food - ie. a couple of oz. in his oatmeal, eggs, etc. And all his doctors and feeding specialists have said is if we can get those calories in orally then not to use his tube. Now we just have to hope that the trend continues and he doesn't loose any weight. So, mark this day on the calendar - It might just be the day we started our three month countdown to "popping the plug."
Oh yeah - yesterday was another big day for Mike in our house as he successfully reached his third home accident which once again required stitches - 14 in all. Yes, I know, what??? Last night he was fixing our attic exhaust fan outside and he accidentally left a tool on the ladder he was using. We all can figure out what happens next. Yes, the tool fell from the sky like Dorothy's house when he moved the ladder and cut his nose in two places. He now looks like a prize fighter and we have to just hope his nose heals enough prior to a family wedding next month.
